2010 Census

What is it?

Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau uses the nationwide census to gain an accurate picture of the nation's demographic makeup. Census statistics determine a number of critical government and nonprofit decisions, including district boundaries, distribution of social service funds, and the locations of schools, roads, and hospitals. LGBT households should be accurately represented in these decisions.

While the census does not include specific questions about sexual orientation or gender identity/expression, knowing which boxes to check on the census form directly affects how the census counts LGBT households. Stand up and be counted by learning how to complete the census so it more accurately represents all Americans.
