Austin, TX – Women and survivors of violence have been repeatedly used as justification to exclude trans women from public restrooms. Now, women from all walks of life are coming together to say, “not in my name.”
The latest version of the anti-trans bathroom ban, HB 32, not only alienates trans women from public restrooms in government buildings and public schools, it would also restrict access to family shelters, and isolate incarcerated trans women. We know that trans women are four times more likely than cisgender women to be the victims of violent crimes.
One Texas city tried to implement a bathroom ban, only for it to be unenforceable. There is no way to police bathrooms, without subjecting women and girls to invasive investigations demanding “proof” of gender.
