Press Contact: Johnathan Gooch, Equality Texas, (512) 922-4040
Austin, TX – Under Jim Crow, Black Texans were told they couldn’t share a restroom, a park, a pool with their white neighbors. Today Black Trans Texans are once again being cast out of public spaces.
HB32/SB7 threatens to segregate bathrooms according to cisgender and transgender. Black Texans remember the harms, Black Trans Texans carry the fight forward.
In 2017 Texas Lawmakers failed to pass a bathroom ban under overwhelming public pressure. In 2024, one Texas city tried to implement a bathroom ban, only for it to be unenforceable.
