Make no mistake. The enemies of equality are attacking on multiple fronts.
After we won marriage equality, our opponents devised aggressive new strategies to reclaim the hearts of minds of Texans. They have pivoted to “religious liberty” as a cover for discrimination and to demonizing transgender people in their bid to reclaim the momentum. Our Texas Supreme Court seems intent on undermining marriage equality. At the federal level, we’re seeing actions to deny us access to healthcare and an outright refusal to protect LGBTQ children at school. Our federal courts are being packed with anti-LGBTQ extremists. In light of all this, it’s hardly surprising that we’re experiencing an unprecedented spike in violence against people perceived to be LGBTQ.
