HOUSTON – President and CEO of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Laura Murillo, is asking Houstonians to support Proposition 1, the Equal Rights Ordinance, in a new ad. Dr. Murillo addresses the claims of discrimination against Latinas at the Gaslamp nightclub.
Dr. Murillo’s ad can be viewed here. A full transcript follows:
“Hello, I’m Dr. Laura Murillo, President of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, urging you to vote in support of Proposition 1.
When you step back, at the end of the day, Proposition 1 is about discrimination. Most recently, the Gaslamp in Midtown discriminated against two Latinas who were charged cover because of the way they looked. We don’t accept that in Houston. We are a city that supports diversity and inclusion.
On that note, we ask that you please support and urge you to vote for Proposition 1 because at the end of the day, this is about discrimination.
We want to keep Houston that world-class city that we all love and embrace – a city that is open to all! Let’s vote in support of Proposition 1.
Thank you.”
