For Immediate Release: Statement of Equality Texas’ CEO Chuck Smith on Ken Paxton’s Hire of Liberty Institute’s Hiram Sasser

Statement of Equality Texas’ CEO Chuck Smith on Ken Paxton’s Hire of Liberty Institute’s Hiram Sasser

Statement from Chuck Smith, CEO of Equality Texas:

“Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is an abysmal chief lawyer for the state of Texas. Not only is he under indictment for a series of felonies, but he’s also hired the two top leaders in his office, Hiram Sasser, named as Chief of Staff today and First Assistant Attorney General Jeff Mateer, who at the First Liberty Institute in Plano have a long record of discriminating against LGBT Texans. This is not what Texans want. Discrimination of any kind is unacceptable.  It’s bad for the Texas brand and bad for business. Most importantly, it’s wrong.  The First Assistant and the Chief of Staff are the people responsible for operations of the Attorney General’s Office and for leading an agency of nearly 4,000 people, whose salaries are paid for by we the taxpayers. Taxpayer money and lawyers paid for by the state of Texas should not be in the business of discriminating against their own constituents.”
