HOUSTON – With about almost a week to go until Election Day, Houston Unites released a new television ad called “Neighbors,” illustrating how the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance impacts all Houstonians, including seniors and families with kids looking for an apartment. The ad’s narrator says, “When we step back, the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance is really about giving all our neighbors a fair shot.” The ad runs for one week on broadcast networks.

Every Houstonian – regardless of race, age, gender, pregnancy, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or military status – should have the opportunity to earn a living, take care of their families, have housing and be served by businesses and government without fear of discrimination.

A “YES” vote on Proposition 1 is a vote for treating everyone in Houston fairly and equally under the law.

A transcript of the ad follows:

“We are all working hard to make Houston an even better place. When we step back, the Houston Equal rights Ordinance is really about giving all our neighbors a fair shot. Where people are judged by how hard they work. Where my neighbor can’t be fired because he served in the military . . . Because she’s getting older . . . Where families with kids aren’t denied apartments. And where no one is denied entrance because of the color of their skin. Nobody in Houston should face discrimination. Working hard, looking out for our neighbors, that’s what makes Houston strong. Vote ‘Yes’ on Proposition 1.”
