Equality Texas is alarmed to learn that a transgender woman, Valerie Jackson, was allegedly forced to show her genitals to officers at the Dallas County jail. This action by jailers is contrary to the requirements of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) and the Dallas County jail’s own policy.  

As reported by The New York Times, the Trump administration is considering narrowly defining gender as a biological, immutable condition determined by genitalia at birth, the most drastic move yet in a government-wide effort to roll back recognition and protections of transgender people under federal civil rights law.
